and lots of play time with her favorite toys.
Riley showed off just how strong she is getting...with her one, two, three - stand up tricks. I think some afternoon she even wore Grammy out with all of her yakking!
Riley is becoming more coordinated as she sits in her Bebe Pod chair. She used to just lean back with her arms holding onto the sides for dear life. Now she will lay small toys in her lap and she will reach for them. Her rattle is the perfect size for her tiny grip, but can be quite dangerous...as she will grasp it tight and just fling it around...sometimes even smacking herself in the noggin'.
As you can tell...she recovers rather nicely!
Over the past two weeks, Riley has re-discovered her thumb. She tries sneaking it into her mouth when we aren't looking. It's funny to watch her, because she sometimes has to use one hand to help keep her thumb on the other hand in place. After working so hard, we try to be gentle when removing it, give her something else to distract her. That is...unless she is over our shoulder...then, it's harder to tell that when she just slides that thumb into place. Obviously, as you can tell from the picture...Grammy let her get away with a lot more than her Mommy and Daddy would.
Friday night, it was a bit cool...a bit more like winter. So, we decided to bundle up and head to the Riverwalk the see the Christmas lights hanging from the trees.
Riley was sporting her cozy Winnie the Pooh outfit from Aunt Mary, with a cute Winnie the Pooh Santa hat.
She was a show stopper...and I mean a show stopper! If she had one "ooh ahh" from fellow tourists, she had a dozen! I think it was the hat that grabbed their attention, then the cheeks that mesmerized them.
There were some artists who talked us into having a caricature drawn of our little sweet pea. So, we caved. It will serve as a wonderful memory for years to come.
We grabbed some dinner at Paesano's, an Italian restaurant on the Riverwalk. We weren't thinking about the time though, when we finally sat down to eat. 7:15 p.m. is the magical hour that Riley tends to need the most attention. This just happens to be her "fussy" time. She is usually antsy and sometimes whiny...and just likes to be held - more importantly - you have to be up walking and bouncing her. She just doesn't like to be held still during this time. So, JD and Grammy had a nice dinner together. Riley and I...we toured the nooks and crannies of the patio area. I did cheat a bit, gave her a little milk which helped to soothe her into an evening nap. She gave in, just in time for me to grab a few bites before my dinner got too cold.
After dinner, we thought we would head to the Alamo to check out the big tree, but the temperature seemed to really be dropping and the breeze was picking up. So, we decided to head home instead. I held tight to Riley, not only to keep her warm, but to try and keep warm myself.
