JD has a magical way of bringing out giggles, smiles and, yes...sometimes even big crocodile tears with our sweet baby girl. Over the past few weeks, we are very fortunate that JD has had a lot of extra time to spend with Riley...which meant more trips than usual in "Big Red"!
He also helped discover the key to avoiding the dreaded afternoon nap...it's all about the schedule. We must keep feedings and naps within the same time frame every day. This helps tie an afternoon bottle with the afternoon nap.
Riley relaxes so much when drinking her bottle, that after a solid afternoon of playtime, she will drift right into dreamland for about 1.5 hours. Of course, many experts say...do not let your child fall asleep "on the bottle", but we don't rely on it for every nap or at bedtime, just for the afternoon nap. For one too many times, we have witnessed a very grumpy baby girl when trying other methods to get her to leave the excitement of the day for her much needed late day nap.
So, if the routine of the bottle works...then we shall go with the flow!
Riley absolutely adores play time with Daddy. She gets so excited when he chases her around the ottoman cubes or when riding on his shoulders!
She also likes sneaking up behind her Daddy to play with the folded laundry. This doesn't bother JD too much, as it is quite cute.
It's the climbing that gets Riley is trouble more often than not...climbing on the entertainment center and her couple of trips in which she ventured close to the stairs. These actions have led to the booming "NO" from Daddy. The first "NO" doesn't seem to phase Riley...it is usually the second or third that brings out the crocodile tears. (I must admit...it's a bit heart breaking to watch...but really for her own good!) The good thing...she does listen and within minutes is usually preoccupied with something different.
At night, Riley still enjoys playing with the toys in her basket and climbing all over JD, like he is a jungle gym. But she always finds her way, at some point, to her stack of favorite books stored on the bench at the foot of our bed. Sometimes she will even crawl into our lap for story time, which melts our hearts.
Friday night was the sweetest, when Riley curled up right in the arms of her Daddy to go to sleep. What a duo!

You really are a very sweet Daddy's girl. I am so glad that you had the time with him that you did before he left. I hope that you will always have that very special bond.
