Doctor, Doctor

Zachary had his first well baby check up today, but due to Mom's poor planning...well, let's just say it didn't go so well. We started off on the right foot, as Zach was sound asleep in his car seat, but as soon as his stats were complete by the nurse (in which he came in right under the 50% at 9 lbs 4 oz and 20 3/4 in long), and the poking and prodding was started by the nurse practitioner in study, he just couldn't take anymore...and he cried and cried and cried. The paci was useless, all he wanted was to eat, and being the rookie "bottle" mama that I am...I left the bottle in the car (thinking...my son just ate 90 min. ago, he shouldn't be hungry for another hour or so - yeah right! What was I thinking???) This is one mistake that will not happen again.

Despite the shrilling screams, Dr. Alcantara and I were able to discuss the results of Zach's swallow study, conducted earlier this week. The test showed that there is some lack of corridnation when Zach swallows, causing small amounts of liquid to enter his airway. To prevent this condition, we will have to continue thickening all of his milk and/or formula with Simply Thick, but increase the consistency to the honey formula. If all goes well, our little man should outgrow this condition within thefirst year, which will show when we return for another test in 6 months.

After a script written to clear up some clogged tear ducts, and just one vaccination, Zach and I headed to the car, where he enjoyed a much deserved bottle of milk. He didn't seem to mind that fact that it just came off of the ice. After enjoying his "cold one", we headed off to Ridgedale to pick up Riley and then home sweet home. Zach was down and out for most of the rest of day, as he recovered from the "trauma" of the early afternoon...although he must have been dreaming that he was scoring a goal in the World Cup!
