Skyper

As a family, we have explored new technological territory...Communicating via web cam services sponsored by Skype. It is grrrreat, and Riley just loves it. When you initiate a call, there is a fun "ringing" tone that catches her attention. She will just stare at the computer, because she knows when someone answers the call, they will appear on the computer screen. It is quite amazing technology!

So, now we Skype a couple of times a week...instead of talking on the phone. Grammy checks in on us often and sometimes Aunt Mary or Aunt Cindy are there too. Yesterday, JD and Riley Skyped with Aunt Ashley for the first time, which was a nice surprise.

The concept of seeing the person we are talking to via the Internet, definitely puts a new twist on staying in touch. I am not sure Riley understands the concept 100%, as the sheer sight of the computer always gets her motor running. During Skyping sessions, she is often close enough to the computer, that she can reach out in front of her and play with the keyboard. We do monitor closely, because just with a few light pounds on the keys, she finds shortcuts to applications we never knew existed. Perhaps we have a future computer guru on our hands, that will keep our tech skills sharp well into our senior years.
