Holiday Break

JD and I have been on holiday from work for this entire week, which we absolutely needed. A week of downtime with the kids is exactly what the doctor ordered, full of rest and relaxation. We had planned to take full advantage of the time off and take the kids on day outings, however, once Santa had come and gone, he not only left behind some amazing gifts, but also two sick kids.

Zachary was first to go down for the count. He started with a 103 degree temp on Monday night, which lasted for two days. The doc checked him for ear infections, the flu, strep and checked his blood count. Results all negative. Another 24 hours later and our questions were answered. Zach had little blisters appear first on his feet, then legs and hands...hand, foot, mouth disease. Results: 3 sleepless nights and fussy filled, napless days eased by lots of cartoons.
Then, as soon as Zach was on the upswing, Riley started with the high fever. It is now 2 days later and we were hoping Riley would not end up with HFMD, but just our luck that she has small spots already on her feet...same way Zach's started.

Although we did go out for lunch from time to time and run a few errands, we didn't get to take the kids on day outings around town or on overnight trip to the Wilderness in the Smokies, as we had hoped. However, despite the change in plans, it really was the perfect week to be on holiday break and spend some quality time with our sweet babies.
It's not often that we get to sleep in and stay in our jammies until late in the day and not have a strict schedule to follow. Hmmm...these kind of days are very addictive!
